Well its been a full-on day here at the farm…..with the lovely sunshine we’ve been having I’ve had to discipline myself to set amounts of time on any one job. This morning I had to prepare rugs for sale at a large farm store in Dumfries. They liked them bagged to prevent them from getting dirty. (personally I hate seeing them bagged because I want people to touch them, the softness of the fur is a huge selling point) anyway they look a bit like this.

Lunch was spent in conversation on the phone catching up with my best friend (liz Gafney of www.heartfeltbyliz.com) She holds a good proportion of blame for any misbehaving I get up to. (if she reads this no doubt she’ll deny all knowledge). Then it was out to gather any remaining ripening berries from the fruit bushes and strawberries. I like to freeze as many as I can to make jam with for Christmas presents, that  way I get to share my home grown food with friends and family.

My husband jokes I’m a messy worker….don’t know what he means. I think the hose pipe looks very artistic strewn down the path like that, and the watering can discarded with free abandon. I intend to continue my artistic notion as I head for a well deserved long hot soak in the bath by leaving obscure items on the stairs for him to admire before tutting and then putting them away… chortle…sorry I digress, The garden currently looks like this

I have developed what was a stone bed into this recognisable work-in-progress garden over the last 18 months, when I moved to my husbands farm (I promise to tell you of the whole romantic fairytale that led me here another day) I couldn’t have done it though without my previously mentioned dream team. I made all the raised beds from decking planks and the boys filled them for me. The lush Lawn you can see at the far end is my latest work. It was a rocky hill to big to break down, which the boys dumped 30 tonnes of soil on to, and after several weeks of raking I managed to get it smooth enough to grass over and plant 9 fruit trees in to make a small orchard. All the trees were wedding presents from friends and family to get us started, we are really blessed.

After spending more than my allotted time in the garden I forced myself to come in and start preparing for my next curtain job in the book. This is a complex job needing my full attention, so I don’t start cutting things like that in the afternoon as I think better in the morning, but at least its ready to start. So to finish today’s plan I’m off for an hours bath (who am I kidding) before settling down to sew some more rug parts before bed.
